- Lotion
Procedure:
- Knock, greet resident by name and introduce self and title. Explain intended procedure and ask permission.
- Excuse self to wash hands and gather supplies. Give call button.
- Simulate hand wash and gather supplies
- Verbalize checking water temperature
- do not put soap into water!
- Knock, greet resident by name
- Set up table, cover with towel and lay supplies down
- CLOSE CURTAIN FOR PRIVACY
- Raise bed if needed
- GLOVES
- Cover pt. w/ bath blanket and remove linens from underneath.
- USE MITT FOR WASHING
- Verbalize water temperature o.k.?
- Check pt. comfort, warmth?
- (rinse water) Eyes first: inner to outer using clean part of washcloth each swipe
- Face and ears
- PAT DRY
- Place towel lengthwise underneath arm
- (wash water & rinse) neck, arm, hands
- both side
- PAT DRY
- (Wash & rinse) chest, under breasts
- PAT DRY
- Roll pt. away from you
- keeping covered.
- (Wash & rinse) back
- PAT DRY
- Lotion and massage back
- pat dry unabsorbed lotion
Verbalize check comfort level?
- Remove and replace hospital gown
- Pretty beds, lower beds, call bell, check comfort, open curtain
- Clean up laundry, water into toilet, rinse & sanitize basins and return to bedside stand.
- Wash hands
Testing Checklist:
- Did candidate ensure safe, comfortable water temp?
- Minimize exposure of patient at all times?
- Use washcloth w/o soap for washing face?
- Wipe eye from inside to out, changing to clean area of cloth with each wipe?
- Leave areas clean and dry?
- Use 'wash mitt' and contain corners?
- Protect bedding from getting wet by repositioning towel throughout?
- Apply small amt. soap directly to washcloth?
- Warm lotion before applying to pt. back?
- Replace hospital gown with minimal exposure?
- Wash hands before and after?
